AlltheWeb: Advanced Search
Interface
Intro
- Theoretically, the AlltheWeb
database is now essentially the same database is the as the Yahoo
Search database because Yahoo acquired AlltheWeb as well as other
search engines. hich produces database seaching products and
provides online marketing services. Yahoo is now using that search
engine database (replacing its licensed Google subset) and
incorporating it in or licensing it out to other search engines.
The database has some new capabilities lacking in the databases
that it replaces, but it also has cause the elimination of some
tools proprietary to the former databases (such as AltaVista
Advanced's "near" proximity operator and truncation).
- Size: Well, according to Ujiko,
probably about four-billion Web pages and other files, but it is
unclear how large and what part of the Inktomi/Overture database
is used in each of the search engines.
Search
functionality
- Advanced Search enables
Boolean searching through the use of entry fields or in a Boolean
entry field. The latter supports nesting.
