Yahoo Search: Advanced
Search Interface
Intro
- Yahoo, which was here before
Google, became a portal as a means to growth, somewhat neglecting
its index and not employing a very viable search enigine. Now,
Yahoo wants to beat Google at the search engine game because
Google has demonstrated how successful a company can be focusing
on complementing the distribution of information resources with
relevant advertising. To that end Yahoo acquired a variety of
database companies and searcj tools (Overture, Inktomi, AlltheWeb,
AltaVista, and more) and built a very large search engine
database, claimed at, roughly, 20 billion Web pages (in late
2005).
- The company has also improved
its search interface, though it, as most search engines, still
lacks the sophistication of the commercial bibliographic content
databases.
