• The "and" is used to combine two or more words and/or phrases to reduce the size of the search result.

Example

• Searching for the subject words "horses" and "cows" in a library catalog or other database containing works (books, articles) about horses and cows.
• Only the green group, the books or articles whoserecords contain both the words "horses" and "cows" satisfy the search request.
